Even though he knew I was prepared to pay whatever it took, he assured me that he would let that go for now unless/until the watch exhibited other problems - that for now - it was fine. I asked for his recommendation on whether to do this now. He did remind me that this was a hundred year old watch and would, at some point, need a thorough servicing. Turns out - the problem was simply an odd spot of rust - easily cleaned for about 1⁄ 10 th the estimated price. I’m sure he was aware of this willingness. I left it for a more thorough exam - fully prepared to spend $ 300 +/-to save my beloved watch.

The cost for fixing these was going to run around $ 300. He gave the watch a cursory exam while I waited and explained to me some possible problems. There I met Joe Don Kube who was not only a certified watchmaker (one of only a few hundred in the nation) but also a lover of antique watches, well experienced in their repair.
